Writing a powerful and well-findable blog for your hotel

Recently, we introduced the news and blog module in our hotel website builder. Blogging can improve your findability and thus your organic reach. In other words, better reach without campaign costs! By writing the right articles, you can attract new potential guests. More leads and possibly a better conversion. We provide you with some tips for your first blog article.
The aim of your article is to write valuable texts. An article with content to show your visitor the information they were searching for. So, no article where you only focus on your search term and synonyms of it without actually addressing the needs of the potential reader! Google has one goal, which is to serve the searching user of the search platform the best answer. Google is increasingly able to recognize the content of texts and match it with search terms. Thus, focus your text on one keyword and ensure that you provide the best and most comprehensive answer to that search term.
When it comes to keywords, we differentiate between short-tail and long-tail keywords. Short-tail keywords are search terms consisting of 1 to 3 words. “Vacation in Austria” is such an example. A long-tail keyword consists of more than four words. Example: “Child-friendly inn in Carinthia May vacation 2020”.
Always use your long-tail keyword in the title (h1) and (possibly in another structure) in your article description (meta description). Regularly rephrase (not too often!) synonyms or your keyword in your article.
A good article has a pleasantly looking structure. A clearly readable font, size and color in a calm layout with little distraction. Make good use of headings. Always use just one main title (h1) and then work with subtitles (h2 to h6). Use paragraphs, don’t make them too long, use bullet points, and supplement your article with links to external websites. Add media when it offers valuable additional information.
Links to interesting sources or external web pages with additional interesting information always perform well. The more information you give away (which can be helped by references), the more interesting your article becomes for search engines. Also, pay attention to the web pages you refer to, they should be a supplement to the content of your article. Besides external links, internal links on your website are also of great importance. Refer from various locations on your website to your blog article, preferably from pages that can add value to your blog article. Other blog articles can also strengthen each other.
Often, blog articles, once published, are seldom or never revisited. You should periodically review an article. Is the content possibly outdated? Are there new developments? Keeping old articles up to date prevents you from giving away old information, and maintaining your historical articles can indeed lead to better findability. Although your articles become less visible as they sink deeper into your blog archive, they still remain active as landing pages in Google.
Often, a blog article is written "because we want to blog". If it doesn’t deliver any or limited notable results after a while, people often give up. The result is a blog that stagnates, lacks content, and has outdated texts. When writing an article, you naturally want to be more findable. It has little (or no) effect if you haven’t done keyword research. The Keyword Planner from Google can help you find the right keywords. Keywords with preferably low competition and sufficient search volume are the right terms to focus on.
Finally, something we all know: A web page must be fast, secure, and technically in order. Use the Google Search Console where you can get useful tips about the technical structure of your web page. Also, hosting level requires all attention to score your website optimally. Regularly check your Google score because new developments need to be kept up for the best results.
