A dream amidst the mountains of the Gailtal

House on the Rock

Some places feel like home from the very first moment. For Eric and Kiki, the Gailtal valley was such a place. For years, they spent their holidays there, both in summer and winter. They enjoyed the peace, the impressive mountains, and the endless possibilities for hiking, climbing, and skiing. Each time they reluctantly returned home. Slowly, the idea grew: what if we don't just come here on vacation, but actually move here?

From dream to reality

After a long search, they found the perfect spot in Kühweg, a quiet village near Hermagor, to bring their plans to life. Together with their three children, they traded Utrecht for Austria and embarked on an extraordinary adventure. Since Eric is an architect, they designed their new home from scratch. They opted for a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Austrian family house, seamlessly blending with the surroundings. This also led to the idea of building two holiday apartments. Not just any apartments, but a place where guests could experience the same peace, freedom, and love for the mountains that they themselves have felt for years.

A place where you immediately find peace

At Haus am Fels, everything revolves around quality, comfort, and attention to detail. The apartments are modernly furnished, equipped with all amenities, and thanks to the large windows, offer a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. Outside, the spacious garden invites you to relax. A special feature is the old wooden shed, which has been transformed into a cozy mountain hut. A nice place where children can play, roast marshmallows, or where you can simply enjoy the silence and the view.

The passing lane, I find, is the most valuable feature. This way you prevent double bookings.

The real Carinthia

Haus am Fels is located in the Gailtal, one of the most authentic valleys in Carinthia. Here you won't find mass tourism, but a region where Austrian life is still very much alive. In summer, you can hike, cycle, climb and swim in crystal-clear mountain lakes endlessly. As soon as winter begins, several ski areas are within easy reach. Cozy towns in both Austria and Italy are also easily accessible, ensuring that every holiday can be different.

More time for their guests thanks to MyTourist

Personal attention is a top priority for Eric and Kiki. That's why they want to spend as little time as possible on administration and managing multiple booking platforms. With MyTourist, they manage all their bookings through one clear system. Especially the automations make a difference. For example, arrival and departure dates are automatically processed in communication with guests. The Channel Manager has also become indispensable.

Continue to build on their dream

Although Haus am Fels now consists of two holiday apartments, the plan was bigger from the start. Ultimately, Eric and Kiki hope to create four or five apartments without losing the personal atmosphere. Their goal is not to become as large as possible, but to create a place where guests feel welcome, can relax and go home with beautiful memories. A place they, just like Eric and Kiki in the past, want to return to time and again.
